Getty Christopher Plummer , the world richest private citizen at the time. His Italian mafia captors demand an enormous ransom, which J. The movie is far more interesting the description I just gave and its subtle, slow-burn pace suits the material.
All the Money in the World remains infamous for its production issues and reshoots. Getty had to be entirely recast and reshot with Christopher Plummer. Plummer's take is simply excellent, earning the Academy Award nomination he has received. He always excels at playing pompous and self-important villains. Though I would kill to see any hidden or destroyed footage of Spacey in the part.
Mark Wahlberg gives an able supporting performance, but its Michelle Williams who plays the true protagonist of the film. Williams probably gives some of the best work of her career in a realistic and gripping effort. World is truly her film and it upsets me that she was neither fairly compensated nor was she given any significant accolades. This will remain a film that is more often written about than actually seen, but I highly encourage you to give a look via rental or streaming.
It's far from the best movie of , but it may be among the most interesting. Joshua S Super Reviewer. Shrouded in controversy since it's key acting role was recast, 'All the Money in the World' is still a superb effort brought to life by the one and only Ridley Scott.
Even from the distance alone, Christopher Plummer's prescience in the film is showing just how top notch Ridley was able to keep the film, I can't imagine how flawed it would've turned out without Plummer.
Consistent along the lines of all Scott's films, it offers amazing cinematography and production design to go along with it's incredibly stunning period setting. As much as an Oscar bait film it may be, it still shows Ridley Scott still has it in him to make such divisive films with compelling drama, bringing out the best in his performers. Although, at the heart of this absorbing and compelling cautionary tale is the will people connected to rich families will go when trying to aid those close to them in response to those demanding ransoms.
While the film can be inconsistent with it's narrative devices, it absolutely doesn't lose any of it's focus, especially in the plotting and overall narrative. Overall, an incredible film from a director whose career has covered more genres than styles.
